How the Score works

How your HoWA Score works.

See what affects the reading, how confidence is shown, where information comes from and how you can correct something that is wrong.

A HoWA Score of 82, well cared for, shown beside the home it reads: the roof, heating and evidence annotated, with a missing boiler certificate flagged and the Home Record listed alongside.
Everyday signals a home gives off, noticed in an ordinary kitchen: energy use higher than usual, a boiler service due, a cold snap to plan for, an insurance renewal and guests arriving.

The same evidence should be treated consistently whoever supplied it. Paying for a service or product does not buy a higher Score.

Confidence and correction

Confidence shows how much is known.

Record confidence is separate from the HoWA Score. It reflects how much reliable information supports the reading. If something is missing or wrong, you can add evidence or correct the record.

What you can expect

Clear sources, corrections and permissions.

One record for your home

Where duplicate property information appears, HoWA should resolve it rather than leave you with competing versions of the same home.

A record is created when you choose

Searching or browsing should not silently create a persistent Home Record for you.

Sources are shown

Facts and suggestions should show where they came from and when they were last updated where that matters.

You can correct information

You should be able to dispute or correct inaccurate information without upgrading your plan.

You choose what is shared

A provider should receive only the information needed for the action you approve.

You know who is providing the service

HoWA should make clear when guidance comes from HoWA and when a separate seller, provider, insurer or adviser is involved.

Important changes are explained

If a material change affects how the Score is calculated, the change and its effective date should be published.

Availability is labelled

Beta, pilot and future features should be identified as such.

When the method changes

Changes to the Score method are explained.

If HoWA changes how the Score is calculated in a way that materially affects the reading, the change should have an effective date and a public explanation. Record confidence remains separate from the Score.

The HoWA Score is not a survey, valuation, insurance rating, safety certificate, personal credit score or guarantee of condition. It is a reading based on the information and evidence available to HoWA at that time.
